Community Association living is trending! As this lifestyle choice continues to grow in popularity around the world, new communities require Boards of Directors, and Boards require new Board members and Managers. Do you have a recruitment strategy?
When you sit on the Board of a community association, you are actually running a business. So when you’re looking for new members to join the Board of Directors, make your team smarter and stronger by appealing to people who already have expertise in another field.
One of our favorite things to ask when we sit in front of a Board of Directors is “What is your profession?”
There are benefits to having members with experience in their various fields. An insurance agent, or a lawyer, or an accountant can help with recommendations or reviews. Sometimes we encounter engineers, landscapers and computer programmers. Recruit them! Board members with such specialized skills and expertise can share their unique perspectives to help the community run more efficiently and effectively.
So ask the profession question. It will give you insight that can help with specific projects, committees, or positions on the Board. Many people aren’t interested in volunteering for a position, but will gladly assist when requested individually. Use this willingness to help an apathetic community enhance their leadership.
Two other questions to ask your ownership:
- What hobbies do you enjoy?
- What organizations are you affiliated with?
Knowing who has what skills or which connections can make it easier to start a conversation about what concerns the association has and how a homeowner can help. At Deeley Insurance Group, we are constantly growing and finding people who inspire us to learn more. We develop ourselves as resources and learn from all those around us to help us grow and become better agents.
