For over 20 years, Rebecca Evans, a Deeley Insurance Group Personal Lines Client Relations Agent, has been donating her hair to Locks of Love!
Over 20 years ago, while watching a local Jacksonville, FL TV station, Rebecca saw an announcement that the station would be hosting a haircut-a-thon at a local mall called “Kutting for Kids.” The station shared stories of young kids with cancer—not only did they have to deal with their medical issue and treatments, they had to deal with changed looks, specifically having no hair, which was extremely difficult for the young girls.
Cancer hits close to home for Rebecca, who lost her father to cancer at the age of 36 and lost several other family members as well. Donating her long locks was something that she could participate in to touch the lives of others.
Rebecca, who is a mother and now grandmother says, “I can’t imagine having a child who has to deal with cancer and treatments or having to deal with having no hair. Giving those kids and all cancer patients a wig made out of real hair means the world to them. And it really makes me feel great inside to be able to do it! I’ve donated 4 times to celebrate birthdays—40, 45, 50 and 55. It’s a lot of work trying to keep my hair healthy to give away, but it’s nothing compared to what they are going through.”
We are proud to have Rebecca Evans as a part of our Deeley Insurance Group team! For more information on donating to Locks of Love, visit their “Get Involved” page on their website.
