In the fall, the number of cars that collide with animals escalates.We have written blogs, shared on social media and warned our friends and family to use extreme caution.
As the person who gathered and wrote about proper precautions and being alert, it doesn’t shock me that I ran right in to a deer the other night when driving home from Boy Scouts. It is the first deer I have hit in 43 years so I am feeling lucky.
I do have the latest and greatest safety devices on my car.I have lane assist and crash sensors.I thought I knew what they did.I didn’t.I swerved to avoid the deer and lane assist corrected my action and pulled me back between the lines.Then the sensors saw the deer and applied the break for me.Seatbelt engaged and locked.
When the car returned driving control to me I could pull over on the side of the road and access my phone.Before I could even dial, vehicle assistance was calling and notifying me that I had been in an accident.They kindly called the police for me, and they called a tow truck.
When I got home, the adrenaline was pumping and so I filed the claim at night. Courtney West, Claim Specialist immediately responded with…. “Are you ok?”

The day after the accident my car was in the repair shop for an estimate and a rental car was at my disposal.The adjustor had called me 3 times and left me two emails trying to make sure we got it handled that day.
