When was the last time you updated your insurance agent about changes to your home?
If your answer is “I can’t remember,” it’s okay! You’re not alone! Many homeowners make improvements to their property over the years but never think to mention them to their insurance agent. It’s important because updates can affect your insurance coverage—and sometimes even save you money.
One of the best recent examples involves roof replacements.
A New Roof Can Make a Big Difference
The age of your roof has become an increasingly important factor for many insurance companies. As roofs get older, some insurance carriers automatically add what’s known as a roof surfacing endorsement when your policy renews. This endorsement can reduce the amount the insurance company pays to repair or replace your roof after a covered loss.
Recently, a few clients called us after noticing this endorsement on their renewal paperwork. In each case, they told us the same thing:
“But we replaced the roof a few years ago!”
The good news? They had invested in a new roof.
The not-so-good news? They never let us know.
Because the insurance carrier still had the old roof age on file, the policy was updated based on outdated information. Once we received documentation of the new roof, we were able to work with the carrier to update the policy appropriately.
It’s a simple reminder that connecting with your agent to keep us informed really does matter.
It’s Not Just About Roofs
We also appreciate hearing about significant updates such as kitchen or bathroom renovations, electrical or plumbing upgrades, a new water heater or HVAC system replacement, home additions, solar panels, security systems, or a new pool, deck or detached garage.
And of course, we’re here to help when life changes, too. Getting married, welcoming a new baby, adding a teen driver, purchasing a new vehicle, or sending a child off to college can all affect your insurance needs.
Sometimes these updates mean you need more coverage. Other times they may qualify you for discounts or help you avoid paying for coverage you no longer need.
Communication Helps Us Protect You
We’re your insurance team. Our job is to help make sure your policy keeps up with your life.
A quick phone call, email, or text when you’re planning a home improvement project—or after it’s finished—can help us review your coverage, update your information, and make recommendations if needed.
Our goal is simple: to help you avoid surprises when you need your insurance most.
At Deeley, we believe that the best client relationships are built on communication. When you keep us informed about changes to your property and life, we can be sure you’re not underinsured, not overinsured, and paying only for the protection you actually need.
