The Rehoboth Beach/Dewey Beach Chamber of Commerce recently reported that federal funding for a flood mitigation project on Read Avenue in Dewey Beach – previously approved through the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in August of 2024 – is currently being withheld, putting this critical project on hold. As a low-lying coastal town, Dewey Beach remains vulnerable to flooding, storm surge, and future storm events while this delay continues.
If you live or own in the Dewey Beach area, or in any coastal area, flood mitigation is essential to preserve and protect our communities. We applaud all of the floodplain managers who work to protect our coastlines by adopting best practices provided by FEMA.
If you live near any of the Delaware/Maryland/Virginia beaches, please consider contacting your federal representatives to ask for help for our neighbors.
