When an emergency situation occurs, states have the ability to rescind FMCSA Safety Regulations in areas directly affected. This flexibility can be extremely helpful for transporting supplies to those in need by allowing motor carriers to travel into the state without paying the Temporary Operating Authority Registration fee.
Tropical storm Alberto in the southeast, was the first destructive storm of 2018. Several states rescinded their FMCSA Safety Regulations to allow trucks bringing supplies to the area to work non-stop to help. Hurricane Alberto relief started on May 27, 2018 and goes through June 27, 2018.
