Last month, the House and Senate finally agreed on a five-year, $305 billion highway bill and the President signed it in to law. The Fixing America’s Surface Transportation (FAST) Act brings with it a number of important provisions, including the following:
- Drug Testing Reform: Carriers can use a hair test in lieu of a urine test.
- Attracting More Veterans: The bill would make it easier for military veterans to obtain jobs by allowing them to count military driving experience toward the skills and driving test.
- No Teenage Drivers: Despite its inclusion on earlier versions, a provision that would have allowed 18- to 21-year-old CDL holders to cross state lines was excluded.
