With the first snowfall of the season already behind us, it's important to remember these tips for driving safely in the winter:
- Always have extra pairs of warm clothes in case of an emergency
- Leave a flashlight, a bag of sand or salt, extra windshield washer fluid, a windshield scraper and jumper cables in your truck
- Don't accelerate or break heavily – this can cause you to slip easily in wintery weather
- Remember that bridges and overpasses become icy more quickly than the normal roads, so approach carefully
- Don't wander around the side of the road if you are stranded – the safest place for you to wait for help is in your truck
- Give extra space between you and the driver in front of you
- If driving conditions are dangerous, please stay off the roads until they have been property treated
