This month, Deeley Insurance Group joined the Kick Butts Day initiative with the #NotAReplacement selfie campaign. We learned that for every person who loses their life to a smoking related illness – two new people start smoking. Most of the new smokers are teens. We are choosing to not have our Deeley Group children be those replacement smokers. We also chose to spotlight those who have #kickedbutts.
Please check out Tammy's story below.
I would quit and start back MANY times. February 2012 was the final time.
Watching my dad suffer and die of emphysema in January 2012 was awful and difficult. The very next month hearing my doctor share that bloodwork showed high
red blood cell was scary. Being sent to a hematologist/oncologist with the knowledge that high RBC’s are a sign of blood cancer was surreal.
As soon as I left the doctor’s office that day, I smoked my very LAST cigarette.
I visited the hematologist/oncologist a week into my non-smokers days, received more blood work and my RBC count was normal. I was ecstatic! My smoking had
caused a lack of oxygen throughout my body, producing more RBC’s. Once I quit smoking, my body stopped compensating with extra RBC’s.
For many years, smoking controlled me. The guilt that I lived with, as I was slowly killing myself, has ceased. I feel so much better as a
NON-SMOKER.
