Power spikes or surges can be caused by lightning, power outages, short circuits, tripped circuit breakers and more. Standard power strips do not offer
protection against these surges.
In order to make sure you are using a surge suppressing power strip check for an LED light that says Protected. You can
also check to see if your power strip has an electrical rating that indicates the maximum voltage it can handle from a power spike. Power strips can only
handle so many surges and need to be replaced on monitored. If your green protection light goes out you need to purchase a new strip.
Several of our insureds have been affected by overloaded power strips.
We urge all residents to invest in a surge protector power strip for your high energy using appliances, such as HDTV, desktop computer, stereo, gaming
console, and DVR/Blu-ray Players.
Even better, invest in a smart surge protector which will turn off your devices when not in use and save you money on the electric bill too.
