The National Flood Insurance Program (NIFP) was set to expire on September 30, 2017. The federal government has extended the NFIP until December 8, 2017. NFIP program is vital to coastal areas, and having the program's existence up in the air creates uncertainty for those buying or selling coastal properties or any property located within a flood zone. Congress had debated the privatization of flood insurance and now that decision will be held off until December. A/SC&D will continue to monitor the changes to the National Flood Insurance Program and the effect those changes have on our insureds.
The bill that extended the program also earmarks up to $15.3 billion in disaster relief funds for Hurricane Harvey victims. Our thoughts and prayers remain with all those effected by Hurricane Harvey and Irma.
