The State of Maryland is working to review the process in which state funding is issued for transportation projects. The state currently has 73 major priority transportation projects. In the current scoring system only a handful of those projects would be funded. In the current session legislators and the Governor are trying to find alternatives to the current scoring system.
Route 589 and the US 50 bridge project both receive low scores and in the current system would not be prioritized. 64 other projects around the state would see a similar fate.
The state highway infrastructure is crucial to the transportation industry as a whole. Hopefully, a new system will restore funding to these much needed roadway projects.
