So last evening while I was cooking dinner, someone knocked on the front door. Truthfully, I was a little surprised as it is rare for me to have unannounced visitors. It was my neighbor asking if he could borrow my ladder. It appears that he had crash-landed his drone on the neighbors roof and he really wanted to get it down.
Being the safety cautious person I am, I agreed to allow him to borrow the ladder, but also stood at the bottom to allow for ultimate safety. I have wanted a drone for a long time and so I have been following the regulations of drones as they have been developed.
Did you get a drone as a toy? The FAA considers it an aircraft! You must register it online!
Some guidelines:
- Drones that weigh between 0.55 pounds and 55 pounds must be registered online.
- Once registered, the drone’s operator will receive a registration number that must be placed on all applicable drones.
- The registration is valid for three years. Failing to register a drone may result in regulatory and criminal penalties.
FAA can assess penalties if you attempt to damage or destroy a drone, so if you are tempted to smash the neighbors drone, don't do it!
