Berkeley Fleet Services just put out a great reminder to have an emergency contact listed in your phone. If you are somehow impaired it is important that first responders are able to make contact with someone who has knowledge of your medical history.
However, adding an ICE (In case of emergency) contact in to your phone is not as simple as renaming someone’s first name as ICE. I know I tried it!
Unless the first responder is also a phone hacker, it is not likely he will be able to bypass your phones password.
Luckily for us – there is an app for that. I downloaded I.C.E. It was a free download and is really just a widget, but as I am not super techy – I can’t explain that.
It asked me to fill in my name, blood type, allergies, insurance, emergency contact name, phone and relationship. Then I enabled the widget. Now when my phone is locked someone can still pull down from the top of my screen and hit the red show emergency info button.
With cyber safety being a concerned, keep your information to a minimum and continue to keep those smart devices locked and with a good password.
