The Unified Registration System is an online registration system that hopes to simplify the registration process for US motor carriers. All US motor carriers would use a DOT number rather than an MC or docket number. The system was scheduled to take effect on September 30, 2016.
Now the program will be pushed back and will go in to effect on January 14, 2017.
As soon as the program is running, the US DOT number will be the only designation assigned to any entity that falls under the jurisdiction of the FMSCA.
This delay in the system implementation will impact the remaining part of the FMSCA rule implementation. Need to know more? Check out the FMSCA website.
