According to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), the Electronic Logging Device Rule will become active on December 18th, 2017. Beginning on that day, violations can be issued to drivers who are driving vehicles that do not have the required electronic logging device installed. A driver who is driving without the required device on or after April 1st, 2018 will be placed 'out of service' until the required technology is installed.
