The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) urged government regulators and industry innovators to accelerate the development and adoption of equipment that automatically brakes vehicles, including cars, trains and trucks.
That’s according to NTSB’s 2016 “Most Wanted” list, an annual report outlining what the agency sees as keys to improving transportation safety. While the NTSB is urging drivers, pilots and train engineers to shut off distracting technologies like tablets and smartphones, the agency recognizes the potential life-saving capabilities of certain transportation technologies.
In addition to automatic braking devices, the 2016 list is also pushing for the development and implementation of lane-departure warnings and systems that monitor drivers’ blind spots.
