Major farm groups have petitioned the Department of Transportation for a waiver and limited exemption from the upcoming electronic logging device (ELD) rule. The groups believe that the ELD rule currently isn’t compatible with the livestock industry, as limitations on driving hours may endanger the health of live animals. Although the rule is still expected to come into effect on Dec. 18, 2017, the farm groups have asked for a one-year exemption in order to address their concerns.
