New legislation has passed the General Assembly in Maryland that allows the Motor Vehicle Administration to downgrade a commercial drivers licenses to a non-commercial license if a medical certification is not on file. This is good news as the MVA previously has revoked all driving privileges. Drivers will now be able to drive personal passenger vehicles until they can get the certification necessary to reinstate the CDL.
Certified Medical Examiners are required to fill out the forms. I was driving down Route 50 and saw one of the local doctors office advertising on their sign that they can complete one of these exams for $75! The health of our drivers on the roadway is essential to every driver. Hopefully, this change will benefit those who have a temporary medical condition that keeps them from using a commercial vehicle.
