At 18, a young person enters the military and receives high level training to drive heavy commercial grade motor vehicles. The person leaves the military and is unable at this time to qualify for a CDL license until they are older. The FAST Act attempted to correct this issue allowing US Veterans who have been trained the right to obtain a commercial drivers license.
FMCSA is starting a pilot program to collect data on the safety of these young drivers. There is a 30 day comment period for this program that ends on September 21, 2016. Click here to read more about the pilot program and leave comments.
