FMCSA passed a final rule prohibiting trucking companies from coercing drivers to break the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.
The rule will go in to effect on January 29, 2016. Per a synopsis on federalregister.gov the rule includes:
- A procedure for drivers to report coercion to FMCSA
- Rules for the FMCSA to follow when investigating the incident
- Penalties that could be imposed if coercion was found
Drivers should always be encouraged to abide by the FMCSR's. The CSA scores are a key component when an insurance carrier is looking at rates and risk tolerance. For the benefit that all that use the roadways and for the Carriers and Individuals who pay the insurance premiums, please continue to encourage strict adherence to the rules.
