The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) clarified which vehicles are mandated to have ELDs. According to the clarification sent out in July, if the model year of the vehicle engine is 2000 or newer, you are required to have an ELD. For example, if you have a 1999 truck with a 2005 engine, you are required to have an ELD. This is different from the original interpretation of the rule which was based off of the year of the truck.
